ABOUT THE ARTIST
S. Birch Black (they/them), or S.B.Black for short, is a Boston-based visual art creator. S became obsessed with art at the age of 3 when they realized they could use a pen (and napkin at the time) to illustrate fantasy worlds for themself. Flash forward to today, S is a scientist/engineer by training who channels some of this inspiration into their visual creations. S first became interested in the medium of collage several years ago during one particular introductory studio art class, and over time found a way to merge it with acrylic painting, and pen/ink (other mediums they love) in a way that just feels right to them. S's most recent work uses a combination of all of these media to create dark, fantastical, and often cosmologically-inspired scenes that are, at the very core, acts of expressionism. All of S's featured works are traditional art pieces, photographed for this gallery. Part of the pleasure of creating these works to S is the tactile experience, which they hope to write more on soon. AI is not invited to their wheelhouse, and instead, from a squishy, organic brain, they strive to create the similitude of dreaming of electric sheep.
